Migration specialist in healthcare

Fifty thousand vacancies are currently not filled in Dutch healthcare. This is expected to triple in the next seven years. More intensive recruitment and training of Dutch healthcare workers will hardly have any influence on this increasing shortage. The report of a State Commission (January 2024) is critical of labor migration and calls for moderation, except in healthcare: recruitment of foreign personnel is unavoidable  to prevent a health care crisis. Unlike the neighbouring countries, the Dutch regulation does not favor health care organisation  and the conditions for nurses and health care assistants are extemely complex, inconsistent and full of pittfals. Not for us. We have accumulated skills and experience, and guided many applications to success.

Variations of this residence permit

  1. Highly educated medical personnel who earn well above the average may be eligible for a work permit as a knowledge migrant. The healthcare worker must receive a salary above the standard, which is currently around €5,300 per month. In principle, variable remuneration elements such as irregularity allowance do not count.   2. Healthcare workers with a salary below the standard for knowledge migrants, such as Nurses Level 4 and Caregivers  level 3, the Social Security Agent (UWV) assesses whether the conditions of the Foreign Nationals Employment Act are met. This is done via a so-called GVVA application, for a combined residence and work permit. The review include intensive and complicated conditions in which the employer must demonstrate on numerous aspects that no alternative candidate can be found within the EU for the position in question. Attention is also paid to the employment conditions, content of the position and housing. Theoratically, any employer can apply, but in practice many will encounter numerous problems. For example, if something goes wrong with the vacancy notification at the front, it cannot be repaired later in the review. The number of rejections is over 60%. After approval, the GVVA is issued for a maximum of two years. Extension is possible, but all initial conditions must be met again until the healthcare worker has worked for five years.

  1. Firstly, the client is advised on the specific conditions that apply to her organization, the position and the candidate employee(s). We assess the file for the recruitment of these candidates. This gives us an impression of the feasibility, and also the intensity of the further guidance. Sometimes our work stops here and we give “homework tips”. If the file is sufficiently in order and we believe in a good outcome, only then will we move on to phase 2.
  2. Concerns the preparation and submission of the individual applications.
  3. Involves the arrival of the candidate after UWV and IND have approved the application. An MVV must be applied for at the consular post and, after arrival in the Netherlands, a residence document must be collected and a BSN must be obtained.
  4. Involves aftercare. Free advice about these migrant workers is included for a year.
